| The 394 guestrooms offer views of Unter den Linden, the interior courtyard or the Brandenburg Gate, and feature period furnishings and rich fabrics with bold colours. All are equipped with satellite TV, minibars, refrigerators, and complimentary newspapers. Bathrooms include separate tubs and showers, hair dryers, bathrobes, and toiletries. This hotel originally opened in 1907 and was all but destroyed during World War II. It reopened in 1997 after being rebuilt from the ground up and at present offers modern amenities in a historically inspired setting of marble, limestone and stained glass. The hotel's history is on display in four restaurants and bars that range from gourmet Gallic dishes served in a formal dining room, to a lively, traditional German stube offering cordial pub fare. The lobby bar features a stained-glass dome and an Art Nouveau fountain, and is unfastened for morning coffee, afternoon tea, and cocktails and cigars in the evening, accompanied by unrecorded piano music. The Adlon Spa is decorated in classical Hellenic style and houses a fitness centre, inside pool, jetted tubs, saunas, a plunge pool and showers with frescoes and mosaic tiles. A selection of massage therapies is available, and the onsite beauty salon treats guests with La Prairie products. Multilingual staff at the 24-hour front desk can counsel on local sights and attractions. Within 400 metres of the hotel, guests can happen the 18th-century Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag, the 19th-century home of the German Parliament that has been restored, revived and expanded by Norman Foster. Potsdamer Platz is 750 metres off. Berlin-Tegel Airport is nine kilometres from the hotel, around 20 minutes by car.
